HOW property taxes UNDULY burden seniors
When people retire, their income usually drops substantially. This is also a time when medical expenses increase. And in some cases, the death of a spouse reduces the household income even further. All while property taxes continue to increase up to 3% per year. This makes it difficult for many seniors to remain in their homes. To make ends meet on a fixed income, they must decide where to cut expenses, which may mean selling their home to move down. Whether having rented or owned homes throughout their life, this age group has paid property taxes in one form or another for 40 years or more and have paid their dues. Now, they deserve a break.
