Our mission is to ensure fairness in ad valorem taxation for all Oklahoma real property owners, with a special emphasis on seniors.
We believe tying property tax relief to Homestead Exemption unfairly excludes many people whose primary residence is located on land that is leased or rented. These homeowners (including seniors) are required to pay property taxes on their primary residence but are excluded from the benefits offered under the Homestead Exemption Act.
Property tax relief could be in the form of a direct reduction in annual property taxes, a property assessment freeze, a tax exemption, or a tax credit.
Several House and Senate bills pertaining to ad valorem tax reform were introduced in 2025 during the 1st session of Oklahoma's 60th legislature. Some of these will be reconsidered during the 2nd session, along with new proposals. Select "Legislation" from the menu for more information. You can also find the names and contact information for your district representatives on this page.
We are also hoping to see a bill proposed during the upcoming session that will increase the amount of Homestead Exemption. This has been $1,000 since the 1930's when properties were valued at a fraction of what they are worth today. This would benefit not only seniors but every home owner eligible for Homestead Exemption.
